In general, we like shopping at Continente Bom Dia. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful and they have many of the day-to-day basics.
However, there are a few things that desperately need improving ...
1. I know that the 'Bom Dia' stores are smaller than many Continentes, but the selection does not compare to the nearby Pingo Doce and Aldi.
2. Staff need to learn some manners and receive 'customer service' training. I cannot tell you how many times employees cut in front of me around the store, some nearly pushing me out of the way to get wherever it is they are going. Customers come first and staff should be more polite when out around customers in the store, making way for us rather than expecting us to get out of their way. This is not just a Continente problem, it is a Portuguese problem, because I experience this contempt for customers nearly everywhere I go.
3. There is not a single employee that speaks English. I understand that we live in Portugal and not everyone is expected to speak English or other languages, but this store is in an area frequented by an enormous number of tourists, especially in summer, most of whom do not speak Portuguese and the majority of which speak at least some English. WHich brings me to my final point.
We live across the street from Continente Bom Dia in Olhão. It is impossible for us regular customers to find a parking place to shop there because the store manager does not control the parking lots, allowing well over 100 cars of tourists going to the islands and the area to block the spaces all day long in the summer (see photo #1).
In the off-season, as you can see from the second photo, there is hardly ever a car in the rooftop lot and there are never more than 25-30 ACTUAL customers in the building during the summer. We customers cannot find a parking place because of this absurd practice, so where are we supposed to park?
Management should post a one hour time limit for 'customer' parking and threaten that vehicles 'will be towed' if the time limit is exceeded, then, mark tires with chalk and tow offenders. This practice would stop very quickly if management was concerned about regular customers and implemented an effective deterrent such as this.
