Washougal, WA: SNAP To, ADJUST Your Attitude, and HEAD On Over To See Dr. Hunt

Washougal Chiropractic & Massage Center
1901 Main Street
Washougal, WA 98671
Phone number (360) 835-3150
Website: http://www.washougalchiropracticcenter.com/
Prices: $$$$

I have been going to see Dr. Hunt for nearly six months, having been referred through the VA's Veteran's Choice Program. It is normally easy to get an appointment and their receptionist, Melissa, is always very efficient, helpful and friendly.

Dr. Hunt is very personable and knowledgable, taking the time to get to know me instead of treating me only as a patient. His adjustments have helped me a great deal as I struggle with numerous spinal problems resulting from my 20 years of military service and four combat tours.

I just recently found out that the VA also covers massage, so I have had two appointments with the masseuse so far. She seems to do a good job overall, but she is not all that personable even though that is not part of her job description.

In summary, I have been very pleased with the treatment I have received and staff are both professional and helpful. I would highly recommend them based on my experience.

Laie (Oahu), Hawaii: Polynesian Cultural Center - Great Experience, Even Greater Prices

Polynesian Cultural Center
55-370 Kamehameha Highway
Laie, HI 96762
Phone number (808) 293-3333
Business websitepolynesia.com
Prices: $$$$

Phenomenal experience, even more phenomenal prices. The cheapest package, including park entry, dinner, and the big show is $90 per person with some packages exceeding $250 per person. Being a military retiree, we got a pretty good deal through ITT (MWR/Tickets and Tours), so I cannot complain too much. We had the self guided tour of the park and its Polynesian Villages, a 6:30pm luau dinner, and the big show at 7:30pm, all for just $71.50 each.
The villages are interesting, but they focus too much on music and dance shows instead of observing daily life in the islands as I had expected. You have to schedule your day fairly rigorously if you hope to get as much in as possible between opening at 11:45am and the luau at 6:30pm. We did not see everything, but you can return to the villages for FREE within 3 days of first entry.

The luau had your basic luau fare - roast pig, chicken, teriyaki beef, raw fish, rice, poi, salads, etc. - with free soft drinks and dessert along with hula, fire dancing, and Polynesian music and singing. The food was unspectacular and I was sick to my stomach for the nest day and a half, but I cannot attribute that to the luau food for sure. The luau show was adequate, but not much different than the big show immediately following.

The big show was well done, following the story of a man from birth through his own son's young adulthood. More music, dancing and singing ensued with fire dancing and twirling, etc., etc. It lasted about an hour and 15 minutes.
In all, it was a nice day, but I am not sure that it was worth $143 for the two of us much less $500+. This place is raking in the bucks, but it all supports a good cause, the nearby Mormon university as the place is run 100% by the Mormon Church.
I base my score on the overall value of the experience as compared to the prices they charge. Everything in Hawaii is ridiculously expensive and luaus alone go for $65 per person and up, so we definitely got a good deal. However, I am basing my score on the average that the general public pays which is probably closer to $125+ a pop, making it NOT a great TravelValue in my eyes. Therefore, ...

Lisbon, Portugal: Airbnb - Steps Lisbon in the Historic Center is a TravelValue

Rua de Marcos Marreiros
Lisbon, Portugal

No place is ever perfect and it is my responsibility as a travel writer to pass on the good, bad, and ugly to readers and future guests. I tend to go into a fair amount of detail in my reviews, trying to remain as objective as possible so that you have a much information as necessary in order to make an informed decision. Having said that, this apartment was a great value and we enjoyed our stay in Lisbon very much.
Centrally located just steps from the #28 tram line that zigzags east to west across central Lisbon, you can connect to metro, bus and train stations that will get you anywhere you want to go, in Lisbon or Portugal for that matter. Make sure you get a Viva card (€0.50) at one of the Metro stations or many shops (markets, news agents, tobacco stands) and top it up with 24 consecutive hours of travel on Lisbon’s trams, buses, metro and trains (€6.40/24 hours) before you get on the tram because a single ticket bought onboard will cost you €3.80. There is a great little restaurant called “Zapata” at the bottom of the street where you can get a massive, traditional Portuguese meal for about €10 per person and a small market just across the road where Singh, the owner and a wonderful person, will sell you bread, milk, coffee, stamps and Viva cards (at a slight markup) among many, many other things, between 8am and 10pm daily. There are numerous restaurants in the area with cuisines from Mexican to crepes to Cape Verde and everything in between.
Zapata

Half Portion of Chicken and Mushrooms (€8)
Portuguese Steak (€11.90 - Served with Fries, Rice and Side Salad)
The apartment itself is rather small, but has nearly everything needed for a week’s stay. The kitchen has a coffee maker and kettle, but make sure you buy some Nespresso coffee pods from Singh before going to bed because none are provided. There is also a toaster, large fridge, microwave/convection oven combo, induction cooktop (stove/hob) and, best of all, a combo washer/dryer that worked quite well. Unfortunately, they do not provide quite enough cookware, utensils or staples (salt, pepper, sugar, spices, etc.) to cook a full meal although a couple of washing machine tablets were left from previous tenants.

The bedroom is barely wide enough for the bed, leaving a little more than a foot (30cm) on each side and making getting in and out of bed a challenge. There is a small rack on which to hang some clothes (with plenty of hangers) as well as three small drawers in which to store a few odds and ends. The only window in the apartment is in the entry door, so natural light is at a minimum. The bed was comfortable and the room dark, being much to my liking.
The bathroom is also rather small, but big enough for the toilet, a small vanity/sink, and the shower. The floor in the bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned before check-in, the sole discrepancy in terms of cleanliness as the rest of the apartment was very clean. The water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water, but the shower did not drain well enough, causing water to overrun the lip and accumulate on the bathroom floor. The shower had to be turned off after 60 seconds or so in order to allow for proper drainage and avoid a flood, something noted in previous reviews.

The TV is fairly new and there were plenty of channels available in many languages. The couch/sofa apparently folds down into an extra bed and I found it comfortable to sit on, but the cushion on which we sat constantly crept forward, causing us to have to push it back into place 2-3 times a day, a minor inconvenience. The dining table and chairs were modern and adequate and there was a coat rack next to the sole door on which we could hang more clothes than would fit in the bedroom. The internet was rather slow and the property managers failed to properly address my concern, telling me "did you restart the modem?" when I asked what the issue might be. I ended up using the hotspot on my phone’s 4G Vodafone UK Big Value Bundle for internet because it was much faster and more reliable than the apartment’s internet.
BnBird arranged for an airport transfer for us upon our arrival (€25) which was quite convenient, but we ended up getting an Uber to the airport upon departure and paid less than half (€12) of what their service charged us. They also offered assistance with a rental car, consisting of a message with a link to RentalCars.com.

All in all, we were very happy with the apartment with the positives far outweighing the very few negatives which I felt compelled to describe here. The slow internet, double the price airport transfer, less than perfect cleaning prior to arrival,  and tiny bedroom left me no choice other than a 2 Bomb (1 Star) overall deduction. However, close to the historic center of Lisbon and public transportation, this apartment made for an excellent base for exploration of the beautiful and historic city of Lisbon and I can recommend it highly if in the $50/night or price range or less.

Tel Aviv, Israel: Osher's "Perfect Location Ever!!" Is Exactly That

Osher's "Perfect Location Ever!!"
Ben Ami Street, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel
2 Guests - 1 Bedroom - 1 Bed - 1 Bath
Entire Apartment
Website: Airbnb - Tel Aviv

Airbnb Description
Sparkling clean - 6 recent guests have said that this home was sparkling clean.
Great check-in experience - 100% of recent guests gave this home’s check-in process a 5-star rating.
Osher is a Superhost - Superhosts are experienced, highly rated hosts who are committed to providing great stays for guests.
Our cool and young designed apartment has everything you are looking for. comfortable bed, TV connected to the computer, great sofa, fully equipped kitchen, AC, relaxing shower and the most important is the location - just in the center of Tel Aviv!!
The apartment is a semi basement with windows.

The space
Full apartment in the center of Tel Aviv
Interaction with guests
Any help getting tours and taxis ,help with what to do in the city, getting directions. recommendation for restaurants and any other questions.
Other things to note
The building is under constructions there are Scaffolding but it is not noisy. The window in the bedroom is blocked.
Being a travel blogger, I always review by providing my honest opinion in the most objective manner possible. Reviews on Airbnb and elsewhere would be useless if everyone gamed the system, giving 5s across the board. I owe it to my readers as well as future guests to provide the most accurate details possible about places I visit and shall continue to do so now and in the future.
We were extremely happy with everything at Osher's with the exception of the internet speed which they may have no influence on. If they do, I recommended that they get the fastest speed possible for future guests. We have been plagued by slow internet throughout our current trip, with the exception of London, making it very difficult to post reviews and photos on my blog or to stream video.

The apartment is as central as central can be in Tel Aviv, just steps away from Dizzengoff Square and numerous restaurants, shops, a mall, a cinema, and public transportation. It was very easy to get around Tel Aviv from there with the exception of the lack of a western alphabet on public transportation which Osher has absolutely no influence on. She and her husband were always available and very helpful anytime we needed help.

The apartment is the perfect size for two adults with a separate bedroom with queen bed, a large living area with kitchen, table and chairs and a sofa, and a bathroom with a shower and plenty of hot water and good water pressure. It was very clean when we arrived and Osher was kind enough to leave a bottle of local wine for us on our first night in Israel.

We were met upon arrival and briefed on the details of the apartment, appreciating everything Osher and her husband did for us during our stay. Osher went as far as contacting Gett, a taxi app that I had problems with, working with them to get a refund even though she and her husband were trying to enjoy a vacation of their own.

The apartment is exactly as advertised on Airbnb, both in photos and the description. There is even a washing machine complete with detergent and fabric softener, although it rained most of the five days we were there, making drying our clothes a bit of a challenge. Osher also has a fabulous motorhome that they rent out when at this apartment in Tel Aviv. We would be very happy to stay with them again in the future if they will have us.
