Legacy Medical Group - Camas: A Disgrace to Veterans and a Violation of Basic Human Rights and Decency

Legacy Medical Group - Camas
1625 SE 192nd Ave Ste 100, Camas, WA 98607
(360) 566-4840

I am absolutely appalled by the treatment I received at Legacy Medical Group in Camas from a female ARNP--late 50s, cold, unprofessional, and clearly unqualified to treat patients, especially suicidal and disabled combat veterans like myself.

Let me be very clear:

I've been severely ill for over four years, critically ill for the past 10 months, and I am now extremely depressed and suicidal. I told this provider, plainly:

"I don't want to live like this anymore."

That's not drama. That's my reality.

Instead of compassion or concern, she responded with ego and condescension. She acted annoyed by my pain, said I was being rude, and shut down the appointment in less than five minutes. No support. No care. No help. Just dismissal and abandonment.

This wasn't a one-off. On a previous visit, she showed zero interest in my complex condition--focused only on my lorazepam prescription--and today she confirmed what I feared: she simply doesn't care.

I'm a 100% disabled combat veteran with PTSD, and I was suicidal during that visit. That should have triggered immediate action. Instead, I was treated like a nuisance.

To prove my point, she sent the police to my house ¨to check on my well-being¨shortly after leaving the office, an obvious ¨cover-your-ass¨move, not done out of concern or compassion, and further substantiating my account.

I filed complaints with Legacy, Medicare, Tricare, and the Washington State Board of Nursing, and I will be disputing any charges for this so-called "appointment." Billing for five minutes of cruelty is not just unethical--it's fraud.

Legacy Health completely ignored my complaint and the Washington State Board of Nursing protected their own, go figure, rather than addressing the matter, stating that my complaint was ¨baseless¨, having never contacted me once for clarification.

Then, to add insult to injury, I received a registered letter (see photo) accusing me of being "threatening.", a blatant, disgusting fabrication to cover for their shameful behavior. Disgusting human beings, unprofessional behavior ... shame on you!

NEXT STEP: Filing a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights. YOU CAN'T DO THAT - complaint filed 6/14/2025.

Legacy Health, you failed me--and every veteran who walks through your doors. Your motto should be: "Do no harm ... unless it's a suicidal veteran.¨

Camas, WA: Close, But No Cigar ... Good Food, But Price And Corner-Cutting Failed To Impress

Salud Wine Bar & Italian Dining
224 NE 3rd Avenue
Camas, WA 98607
(360) 787-2583
Prices: $$$$
Our server, Cooper, was very nice and efficient and the staff were all friendly.
We ordered a bottle of Merlot ($33), which was quite nice as well as the Artichoke Stuffed Mushrooms ($15). The shrooms were delicious, but there were only four of them, coming in at $3.75 a pop. Six mushrooms would have made me feel like I was not getting ripped-off.
I had the Italian Osso Buco ($27), a large shank sat atop a smattering of mashed potatoes, barely enough to make an impression. The osso buco was excellent, literally falling off the bone, with quite a bit of meat, but the lack of potatoes was disheartening. How much would another scoop or two cut into their bottom-line? It came with a nice garden salad.
My son got the Veal Marsala ($28), a good size piece of meat served on top of a bed of fettuccine. The portion was nice and the veal tasty, but the meat was unlike any veal I have ever had, grey, not white as it should be, and slightly gristley, making me believe that it was cow, not veal. It also came with a nice garden salad.
We finished with an order of Cannoli ($8), four small tubes instead of two big ones, which were creamy and delicious, likely the best value on the menu, but still not cheap.
This place could be a TravelValue if they lowered their prices a bit, were more generous with the mashed potatoes, and used veal instead of cow. The wine list is quite pricey as well with our Merlot being one of the cheapest options available.

Camas, WA: Very Good, Albeit A Bit Pricey, Brunch In The Heart Of Historic Camas

Natalia's Cafe
437 NE 4th Avenue
Camas, WA 98607
Phone: (360) 844-5968
(360) 844-5968
Hours: Closes 2PM
Prices: $$$$

Maybe it was the COVID-19 pick-up and eat out of styrofoam box thing that affected my overall impression. Granted, my food was pretty good, but after paying $17, including a 20% tip, for a single biscuit and gravy, four slices of bacon, and two eggs over-medium seems a tad high. An included side of crispy hash browns and a tad more gravy might have lessened the feeling of being overcharged, but, alas, it was not to be.
Natalia's Cafe is a cute little place on the corner of 4th and NE Dallas in the heart of historic downtown Camas. In an old, brick building, Natalia's has the feel of an old-time diner with a huge griddle behind the counter and a few tables scattered about, although the tables and chairs were roped-off and stacked in the back of the small dining room. When there are tables, they are, in my experience, routinely full at this place and I am not sure if they take reservations.

They have their menu on their Facebook page, so I was able to select a meal and call-in my order on the way back from a colonoscopy, having not eaten a bite in 40 hours even though I could live off of my fat for weeks if not months. I assume it was Natalia behind the counter cooking my breakfast, the Biscuit Special ($13), coming with a homemade biscuit topped with sausage gravy, four slices of bacon, and two eggs (any style).

The biscuit was decent in size, not massive and not small, but their could have been a bit more gravy on top. As I said before, some crispy hash browns would have completed the meal and made it a better value. The gravy was good, but it had an odd taste, not a bad taste, but an unknown ingredient or two had been added that probably could have been omitted altogether.
The bacon had been precooked, but the slices were large, warm, thick, dark and chewy, just the way I like it ... HOOAH! The eggs over-medium were just that, eggs over-medium because it does not take a rocket scientist to cook breakfast.

The only thing I will add is the fact that thay have no website. A Facebook page just does not cut it these days because there are many folks out there who refuse to use Facebook for a number of reasons. A business without a webpage will likely fail unless they get as lucky as Natalia's has with people waiting out the door to get in and overpay, a little, for brunch.
As I said, hash browns would have made this breakfast worth $13, but, then again, I am sure that rent on 'Main Street' in Camas is not cheap and I appreciate the fact that she decided to stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic, having added an extra BOMB/star to my review just for that purpose ... thank you Natalia!

Washougal, WA: Rustic Charm, Friendly Faces, And Good Food At Fair Prices

Smitty's
1816 NE 3rd Avenue
Camas, WA 98607
Phone: (360) 834-4257
Prices: $$$$

This rustic coffee shop/steakhouse between Washougal and Camas has reportedly been there for 50 years under the same ownership and ANY restaurant that has been in business that long must be doing something right. The interior is dated, but serviceable and very clean.

We were greeted warmly and seated immediately, receiving an extensive menu and water. I was surprised by how many tables were full when we arrived at a little after 4pm on a Friday afternoon - a good sign. Gordon Ramsey would be appalled by the vast number of options on the menu - six large pages of small print -  including breakfast (served all day), salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, seafood, and desserts just to name a few.

We were hungry, but not overly so, ordering what we thought would be "lighter fare". My wife had the Homemade Belgian Waffle ($5.99), a large, thick, fluffy waffle, coming with a small pitcher of warm maple syrup and plenty o' butter. She loved it ... HOOAH!!
I had never heard of a Super Melt ($12.95) and it sounded scrummy, so I decided to give it a shot. The sandwich came with sliced roast beef, turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, tomato, and grilled onions on fresh, grilled sourdough bread, along with a side of piping hot, crispy, seasoned fries. The sandwich was very good, fresh, thick, and filling, but too much for me to eat, so I took half of the sandwich and delicious fries home for lunch the next day.
The prices are reasonable, in fact, they had a Prime Rib Special for two with all the trimmings for just $23.95, that is less than $12 each for the mathematically challenged.

My only concerns were the dated decor, looking like they had not remodeled since the 1960s when they opened, and the overly extensive menu. I am sure they get a fair amount of business, considering how long they have been open, but with that many options and ingredients it is difficult to keep the food fresh and avoid spoilage. They could easily reduce the menu by two-thirds and there would still be plenty of options. Finally, their breakfast menu is a bit on the pricey side, so you can probably find similar items for less money at other Camas/Washougal eateries. After all, breakfast is not rocket science.
Nice people, good food, and fair prices, we will be returning to Smitty's soon to give one of their daily specials a try. They even have a small, charming lunch counter in the room next to the kitchen with freshly baked pastries and a cash register so you can pay before you leave ... and don't forget to tip your server!
