There were just a few people scattered throughout the dining room as I stood at the counter waiting to be seated, but the lad behind the counter was busy bussing tables and cleaning in the back. I stood there for close to five minutes.

He was equally as slow bringing me my coffee ($4) and taking my order (Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs ($20), but then things improved a bit.

The chicken fried steak was decent, but instead of being ¨smothered¨ with country gravy, there was only enough to barely cover the top. I was going to ask for more, but I did not want to wait forever and let my breakfast get cold.

It is a cute little place, but the service could have been better, the food was average, and the prices were a tad steep.

A trip to Betty's is, apparently, a MUST DO while in York and I am not quite sure why. My wife had her heart set on it, so I could not disappoint.

You have to queue up out front in the rain for up to an hour for a table, then, once seated, pay an exorbitant amount of money for mediocre pastries, meals, and drinks ... BOHICA!

We were not very hungry, so we went the Betty's-light route. I had a Gooey Rascal Scone (€6.50) and a cafetière of the house coffee (€6.25) and my wife had the Fat Rascal Scone (€6.25) and a pot of the house blend tea (€4.85).

The coffee and tea were okay, but the scones, although rather big, were hard as rocks without much flavor. We could barely cut the scones with a knife without hard chips of a scone flying off of the plate but, fortunately, nobody was injured.

Their ¨Festive Afternoon Tea¨includes a small selection of very small sandwiches (one-quarter of a sandwich), a cranberry & orange scone with strawberry preserves and clotted cream, a miniature selection of miniature cakes, and a pot of tea, all for just £30

Sandwiches range from £16 to £20. I saw a Christmas Club Sandwich (£17.95) and a quiche at the next table, both falling into that price range, and that is about all you get -  a meager club sandwich (I have seen larger, more appetizing examples at an International House of Pancakes) and a tiny quiche with a miniature salad.

I am not easily impressed and I was not after we visited Betty's. If you have a wad of cash you need to part with or want to impress your friends with photos of you eating miniature, overpriced food, then have at it folks ... OOH-RAH!

On the main drag, along the waterfront in Olhão, you will find many eateries, most with high prices for food that you can get at a fraction of the cost a few blocks inland. Then there is Delícia de Olhão.

We stumbled upon this place one evening after I was shamed for forgetting to mask-up at a restaurant a few doors away. It was bright, clean, and had several customers inside and out front on the sidewalk.

They have a simple, basic food menu with grilled sandwiches, omelettes, fish and meat dishes as well as small selection of pizzas. My wife has tried their baguette sandwiches as well as the toasted variety and for just €3, they are a very good value.

I have ordered the pizza here on two occasions now because it is pretty darn good and inexpensive. A large 'normal' pizza comes with tomato sauce, ham, sausage, mushrooms, bell pepper and a s**tload of cheese. The crust is medium thin, crispy enough to support the abundance of toppings, but not thin and crunchy like the horrid pizzas they sell in Rome. All that for just €10. Can you say two meals for €10? That is just €5 a pop!

The house wine is good and cheap, but the selection of desserts/pastries is obscene ... HOOAH!. They have just about any confection you can think of from giant pastel de nata to creamy cakes with fluffy pastry and more. They also sell homemade bread and I have been told that the line is out the door and down the block on Sunday mornings.

Dinner for two, including mains, drinks (water/wine/Coke), and dessert runs around €20. The severs are young, friendly and efficient, but do not count on too much English as this place caters more to locals than tourists.

Maybe it was the COVID-19 pick-up and eat out of styrofoam box thing that affected my overall impression. Granted, my food was pretty good, but after paying $17, including a 20% tip, for a single biscuit and gravy, four slices of bacon, and two eggs over-medium seems a tad high. An included side of crispy hash browns and a tad more gravy might have lessened the feeling of being overcharged, but, alas, it was not to be. 

Natalia's Cafe is a cute little place on the corner of 4th and NE Dallas in the heart of historic downtown Camas. In an old, brick building, Natalia's has the feel of an old-time diner with a huge griddle behind the counter and a few tables scattered about, although the tables and chairs were roped-off and stacked in the back of the small dining room. When there are tables, they are, in my experience, routinely full at this place and I am not sure if they take reservations.

They have their menu on their Facebook page, so I was able to select a meal and call-in my order on the way back from a colonoscopy, having not eaten a bite in 40 hours even though I could live off of my fat for weeks if not months. I assume it was Natalia behind the counter cooking my breakfast, the Biscuit Special ($13), coming with a homemade biscuit topped with sausage gravy, four slices of bacon, and two eggs (any style).

The biscuit was decent in size, not massive and not small, but their could have been a bit more gravy on top. As I said before, some crispy hash browns would have completed the meal and made it a better value. The gravy was good, but it had an odd taste, not a bad taste, but an unknown ingredient or two had been added that probably could have been omitted altogether. 

The bacon had been precooked, but the slices were large, warm, thick, dark and chewy, just the way I like it ... HOOAH! The eggs over-medium were just that, eggs over-medium because it does not take a rocket scientist to cook breakfast.

The only thing I will add is the fact that thay have no website. A Facebook page just does not cut it these days because there are many folks out there who refuse to use Facebook for a number of reasons. A business without a webpage will likely fail unless they get as lucky as Natalia's has with people waiting out the door to get in and overpay, a little, for brunch.

As I said, hash browns would have made this breakfast worth $13, but, then again, I am sure that rent on 'Main Street' in Camas is not cheap and I appreciate the fact that she decided to stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic, having added an extra BOMB/star to my review just for that purpose ... thank you Natalia!
