We went to this charming little cafe with our new Maltese friends for a meal before the Christmas kick-off concert and tree lighting ceremony just across the street in the plaza.
Looking more like a British pub, the place was quaint and rather small with just a handful of tables and too many people to utilize them during the holiday rush. The four of us managed to get a four-top after waiting 10 minutes or so at at table for two.
We had a nice bottle of local Maltese (Gozo) red wine, Ulysses, a Shiraz (Syrah in French) by Gozo vintner Marsovin that was excellent, particularly at just €11 ($13). It was dark and robust with fruity overtones, a perfect accompaniment to the local, savory chicken and rabbit dishes we ordered.
I had the chopped chicken breast in a mushroom and gorgonzola cheese sauce with fries (chips) and a side salad. The sauce was savory with mild hints of gorgonzola as the cheese can be quite overwhelming if not prepared properly. The fries were hot and crispy and the side salad more of a garnish than anything.

My wife's Montecristo was untraditional and underwhelming, but at just €5.95, we could not complain. Served on local ftira bread instead of the traditional egg-battered, fried bread sprinkled with powdered sugar, the local bread was toasted, adding chicken and pecorino (goat) cheese to the somewhat more traditional Parma ham and mozzarella cheese. Accompanied by a smattering of potato chips (crisps), my wife was not overly impressed and the bite I had was nothing special.

Henry, our Maltese host for our weekend in Gozo, had the traditional local favorite, rabbit in a brown, wine-based gravy and served with roasted potatoes. I did not taste it, but it looked delicious and Henry, an expert on rabbit, said that it was "very good".

We then walked across the street to the main plaza for Gozo's Christmas Season opening musical performance with a number of performers singing Christmas carols followed by a flip of a switch, turning on the city's Christmas tree lights as well as the lights decorating the streets of Victoria.
At just over €60 for dinner for four and a nice bottle of wine, Jubilee was quite delightful and an excellent value. The environment was warm and welcoming as was the service we received. Considering the mad rush of concert goers, including part of the orchestra, instruments and all, they handled the crowd and the food very efficiently ... BRAVO!
